Learn French with Ms. Erika in this fun and interactive beginner French class! In this class, students will increase their French vocabulary by learning words related to the family. This class is intended for beginner learners and no previous French knowledge is required! Students with some experience speaking French are welcome as well. Below you will find a detailed breakdown of the class structure. As the teacher, I will guide students through the vocabulary words by giving each student the opportunity to repeat these new words and practice them in sentences with the other learners. I incorporate the use of lots of visual aids to help my students learn new concepts. This will include slides for the students to follow along and flashcards to help memorization. Students will also get to participate through sing-a-longs and short reading passages to help increase the retention of the new material they have learned. This is a very interactive class and your child will have the opportunity to both listen to a native French speaker and practice using the language themselves. I create a relaxing and welcoming environment where students feel comfortable practicing a new language by ensuring that all learners are included and have the opportunity to participate. In this class, your child will not only gain French language skills, they will have fun along the way! **Please note that permission has been obtained for the use of all materials in this class, including images, videos, and music. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Introductions (5 min): - Students will be introduced to the teacher and have the chance to introduce themselves to the other learners. They will learn to say "Bonjour" [Hello] and the sentence frame "Je m'appelle _________." [My name is __________.] to practice introducing themselves. The teacher will explain the topic of the class and any functions that students will need to use on the Zoom platform (raise hand, muting themselves, etc.) Warm up (2 min): - The class will participate in a short warm-up activity to get the students ready and excited for class. Opening Song (2 min): - The opening song sets the stage for the content of the lesson and is related to the vocabulary words that students will learn. For this lesson, we will listen to the song "J'aime papa, j'aime maman" [I love dad, I love mom] before we start our lesson. Students will have a chance to listen to and repeat the lyrics before the song is played. Students are invited but not obligated to sing along. Vocabulary (10 min): - During the vocabulary section, students will be introduced to the vocabulary words: "mère/ maman" [mother/ mom], "père/ papa" [father/dad], "soeur" [sister], "frère" [brother], "grand-père" [grand-father], "grand-mère" [grand-mother], "cousin/ cousine" [cousin], "oncle" [uncle], "tante" [aunt], "nièce" [niece], "neveu" [nephew]. The teaching of these words will be reinforced with both digital and physical props, including presentation slides and flashcards. This is a conversational class, so all students will have the opportunity to practice repeating each new word after the teacher. Students are also welcome to interact with the other learners to increase their practice. Repetition is reinforced in this section of the lesson to help increase students' retention of these new words and create meaning. Students will gradually be encouraged to repeat the vocabulary words more independently after repeating after the teacher a few times. Practice (10 min): - After each student has had the opportunity to successfully practice the vocabulary words, we will practice using these words in context as a class. This section of the lesson will continue to rely on the use of slides to reinforce students' understanding. This section will include activities like filling in the missing word, identifying different pictures, practicing short sentences, and answering questions. Closing Activity (5 min): - To wrap up our learning, we will play a short game of Bonhomme Pendu (hangman) that utilizes the vocabulary words learned in class. The teacher will select a word learned from the day's lesson, and students are invited to play along and guess the word. Goodbye Song (2 min): - For our goodbye song, we will listen to the song "Frère Jacques" [Brother John]. Students are encouraged but not required to sing along. Goodbyes (1 min): - Each learner has the opportunity to say goodbye. The learners can repeat "Au revoir, _______." after the teacher to say goodbye to the other learners.
