Class Experience

Class Experience
In this one-time 50 minute class, students will learn a new strategy to multiply 2-digit and 3-digit numbers. After taking this class, students will feel have a new tool in their toolbox to correctly multiply numbers.

Class Outline
Throughout the 50-minute lesson, students will be encouraged to actively participate. The class will begin with a 5 minute ice-breaker. Ice-breakers are so important for building a supportive classroom community. The ice-breaker will allow students to feel more comfortable with me as their teacher as well as learn about their peers. Next, students will be given a real-life example of when it is necessary to multiply multi-digit numbers. Students will be encouraged to solve this multiplication problem using any method they may already know. This will allow me to gain insight into students' prior knowledge. Next, students will be guided through the steps on how to use the lattice method of multiplication. Throughout the class, students will practice multiplying numbers using lattice. Students will solve number problems and word problems. Class participates should leave the class feeling confident in their ability to multiply numbers using the lattice method.

Recommended For:
If your child needs to learn a new strategy for multiplying large numbers, this course is for him/her! This course is recommended for students who are in 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

Prior Knowledge:
Before taking this course students should have prior knowledge of their math facts 0-10.

I have a Bachelor of Art's in Elementary Education specializing in integrated sciences from Michigan State University. In 2018, I graduated from Oakland University with my Master's in Reading and Language Arts. I have taught for a total of 5 years in a traditional Brick and Mortar classroom. I also have experience with online teaching and have been teaching with VIPKid for over a year. I have a passion for education and I look forward to meeting your child in my classroom!

Multiplying multi-digit numbers using the lattice method is a mathematical concept that I have taught in a traditional classroom as well as online. I am able to identify misconceptions and guide students to the correct algorithm. I am able to adjust my teaching to meet the needs of the learners.
