KS3 Latin with Suburani for Middle and Secondary Learners Part 1

In this course, students will discover the world of Rome in AD 64 by meeting a family that lives in the Subura and studying the language of and mythology of the Romans. The course will involve reading, writing, acting and using Latin both actively and as part of everyday English. ESL learners are welcome, and some of the classroom interaction will be in Latin. 

This course is the first part of my KS3 Latin course and it will focus on chapters 1 and 2 of the book Suburani. The course is designed for those who want to learn Latin as part of their studies, and all aspects of the language and culture will be covered. Students who are learning Latin in school and are looking for support or a complement are also welcomed, but please do get in touch first to see how this course aligns with the vocabulary and grammar you are learning. 

Here is the weekly plan:

Weeks 1 and 2: Meeting the characters of the story and reading in Latin. The present tense. 
Weeks 3 and 4: Translation and conversation in Latin. Life in the city of Rome. The history of Rome in the 1st century AD.
Weeks 5 and 6: The Nominative and the Accusative. Public spaces of Rome and the Forum Romanum. Foundational myths of Rome.
Weeks 7 and 8: Using the declensions and understanding grammatical categories. The place of Rome in the Empire. 

No previous knowledge of Latin is needed, but younger students are encouraged to take my KS2 Latin course before enrolling in this one. Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss the options for your learner.
