Are you interested in ancient civilizations? Want to hear about ancient civilizations your parents probably don't know about? Do you like being creative while you learn? This is the history class for you! In the first 20-30 minutes, students will be introduced to the ancient civilization of the week. Students will learn about an ancient civilization and their geographic location, time period, important architecture, culture, and art, fine motor skills (coloring/drawing), and positive discussion with their peers!
I am an archaeologist and museum educator! I have worked to engage young students with the ancient world and history at numerous events. I love teaching history in fun ways and have deeply enjoyed my one-time versions of this class! I have a BS in Anthropology and love sharing my understanding of cultures around the world!
Please provide blank paper for your students. I recommend my students freehand. Supply List: 1. Colored pencils/crayons/markers/etc. 2. Blank white paper 3. A space to draw
For some civilizations, we will touch on any relevant histories of oppression in an age-appropriate way. Please message me if you have any questions about this portion of the class.
My sources for this course are a huge mix of ancient material culture, writings, and the work of more modern historians. Students will see images of many of these in class and hear ancient sources where they are available!
