Class Experience

Are you interested in ancient civilizations? Want to hear about ancient civilizations your parents probably don't know about? Do you like being creative while you learn? This is the history class for you!

In the first 20-30 minutes, students will be introduced to the ancient civilization of the week. We will talk about their geographic location, time period, important architecture and archaeological sites, overall culture, rise and fall, and more! I create my classes so students get a good overall understanding of the civilization and a mix of interesting, surprising, and even silly fun facts! I teach in an open lecture style, where I go through engaging slides, stories, ancient texts, and information. Students are asked questions throughout and are encouraged to ask questions of me at any time. We will not discuss ancient fashion to avoid repeating information from my other classes!

Then about for 20-30 minutes, students will be able to create their own masterpiece! I will pick a few art and architecture pieces I think they will enjoy from which they can model their drawings, but students are free to draw anything that they want from the presentation or civilization! During this time, I will answer any and all questions they have about archaeology and the civilization of the day. Students are encouraged to chit-chat with each other if they would like to get a break from all the content. If there are no questions, learners can socialize, play some games, help each other with ideas, and hear stories of the ancient world from Alexa.

In the last 5 minutes, students will share their masterpieces with the class. We will reflect on what we learned and ask any last-minute questions.

This ongoing course is a great option for students who have taken some of my one-time classes and don't want to repeat. You can drop in and out with your interests or to avoid taking the same course again. Each class is completely standalone! For those who have taken my ancient fashion classes, you may hear a bit of a repeat just at the beginning with geographic locations and small amounts of history. But, the rest should be new! We won't go in historical time so we can keep going until we've exhausted the list!
