This class is taught in Japanese.

Students will practice their Japanese skills through various activities:
Listening/Speaking: listening to teacher's explanations and instructions, Story Time, and interacting with teacher and classmates.
Reading: Students will practice reading sentences through the monthly reading assignment. Katakana will also be introduced.
Writing: Students will practice writing hiragana sentences through the monthly reading assignment.

Homework Offered
Homework will be assigned. Typically if there is not enough time during class, or there are less than 4 lessons in the month, students will be asked to complete certain tasks during the week:
* Complete writing assignment
* Prepare for the read aloud by practicing their reading part
* Prepare for the read aloud by drawing a picture to accompany their part

Additionally, one of the keys to language learning and maintenance is repeated exposure. We ask all parents help facilitate learning by providing lots of exposure to Japanese at home during the week. Here are some suggestions:
* Age appropriate Japanese TV shows 
* Reading Japanese books to your child
* Speaking to your child in Japanese if one or more parents speak it.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Each week a selected age-appropriate Japanese book will be read aloud during story time.
