Beginner Level
This course will mainly focus on conversational Japanese and exploring Japanese culture. Topics include: self-introduction, introducing your family, asking simple questions about objects and people, expressing preferences, ordering and purchasing items, talking about weather, and sending invitations. Students will practice speaking and listening through modeling/repeating after the instructor and various student-led activities to reinforce material. Please be mindful that you will be expected to participated in hands-on activities. The class begins with a quick opening activity followed by a short review session from the previous lesson, the main language topic introduction, and activities to reinforce new concepts. If time allows, we will explore Japanese culture and hiragana writing. Here are the topics of the first 8 weeks: Week of 1/8/24: Self-introduction Week of 1/15/24: Introducing my family Week of 1/22/24: Talking about my city Week of 1/29/24: Weather Week of 2/5/24: Likes and dislikes Week of 2/12/24: Inviting someone Week of 2/19/24: My daily activities Week of 2/26/24: Asking simple questions
Learning Goals
Students will learn the fundamentals of conversational Japanese language, which include:
*Introducing yourself/greetings including the country of origin, family structure, age, etc.
*Talking about your city.
*Inviting someone to visit you.
*Asking simple questions about an object and a person.
*Expressing preferences.
*Talking about weather.
*Sending an invitation.
I use a lot of visuals and ask students to participate in various hands-on activities.
In addition, students will learn to write their name in Japanese and learn Hiragana symbols.

Quizlet may be used as part of your homework. We use Quizlet to help students memorize new vocabulary online. You don't need to open an account for this.
Blooket may be used as reviewing materials. It has a variety of online games that we can play in class. You don't need to have an account for this.

I earned a B.A. in Music from California State University, Fresno as well as a teaching license in Music. After receiving a B.A. and a teaching license, I have taught vocal music at elementary schools and choir at both middle and high schools. I also earned a Japanese teaching license in California and taught Japanese at a Japanese Saturday School to young children of the ages from 7 to 10. At my previous brick and motor school, I taught Japanese Language and Culture during the short term in January to the students from the 7th through the 12th grade. I would like to offer engaging Japanese courses.In addition, I earned Master's Degree in Education from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
I am a certified Japanese license from California as well as music license from - Nevada, California, Iowa, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska, and New Jersey.
