Class Experience

In this multi-day course, students will learn and practice strategies to help them strengthen their retention. We will learn and play specific games. First, in the initial session, I will demonstrate and practice the techniques to help enhance memory. I use new games as well as traditional games to exercise the brain, all while having fun. We will discuss games, Apples to Apples, 20 Questions, and Name that Tune that will influence our class. In each game, we will exchange answers with fun facts, literature quotes, famous people in history, and so much more. Next, we will divide up into teams and practice the techniques with our classmates. Things get exciting! Each student learns to work together as a team, and encourage their team members to get the answer to remember and offer clues. Then, we will get the challenge list for the second session in the following class. Each student will practice the technique independently or with family members after class. After returning for the second session, we will engage in repetition games and then put our new skills to the test. We are listening, speaking, and sharing our tips and tricks. In these four sessions, each ability learned connected with the one prior. We will have developed a creative, fun way to become a more responsive listener, and this will help each student remember and use what's in their head. Each outcome is unique as each student brings their style to the class, and we create as a group. No prior knowledge of the mentioned games is needed. Students are expected to contribute to the class and play the games.
Week One: 20 Questions, Who am I? and Apples to Apples
Week Two: Whose Coming to Dinner, My Favorite Song lyrics, and Stomp the Spelling Words.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their listening and retention skills. These classes will help the learner to think carefully about forming the right questions. Students will enhance listening to directions, make decisions, perform a specific task, and use more descriptive language. These tools shared in class will be ones that can be used and enhanced as the student continues in his educational trek while adding a little fun to the journey.

Teacher expertise and credentials

Hello Parents and Students!
My name is Nicole Harrison, also known as Ms. Nicole, during class. I am excited to have your student join my classes. I have been teaching for over 20 years. At that time, my love for learning carried over to my two children.
Although the methods have changed over the years, the desire for children to grow and thrive has not. I have developed a unique way of working with both preschoolers to middle school children.
I have mentored hundreds of people of varying ages in transforming innovative ideas into reality. I own a consulting company, HIP events, where I help take a client’s expectation to experience.
Over the years, I continue to incorporate exercises and concepts from my career to my love of teaching. My classes are interactive and supplement the courses or curriculum your child already has in place. I am here to assist you and your child in setting a path to success. I educated my son in addition to his going to public school as well as my daughter now.
I have been homeschooling my daughter since the fall of 2016. I also have volunteered my time as a co-op educator for the last three years for a privately owned school. In these years, I have taught students from the USA, Canada, and Australia, these are all virtual classes ranging from 45- 90 minutes depending on the topic. Youth About Business is a non - profit here in our city. I have worked closely with them during 2012-2015, helping coordinate field trips and fundraisers.

Working with all types of age groups has been rewarding for me, but I especially love working with 9- 18 and up. I feel this is such a necessary stage in life. Mentoring young men and women bring me joy. We don’t want to forget they need individual attention too. I am most influential in Literature and Reading comprehension, classes like those allow me to guide the learners in a direction to grow every day and build on what they know. I invite you to join us for a journey that begins with your student growing with us.
When I am not teaching, the world is silent to me. I am forever looking and listening for a chance to learn and teach. I am a volunteer bible educator and do this as a community service. As a mother of a 26-year-old and 14 years, I do believe I have been outdoors a few times! I am a huge fan of comedy and journaling. I cannot wait to meet you in my class.
Did you know butterflies taste with their feet? Yes, they do. If you join my class, I will teach you more.
