Many of us have done the "island survival" activity in school, in which you pick from a list of supplies to survive on a deserted island. Usually, the activity ends there, after being told which items were "right" and which were "wrong." But I've always wondered two things: 1) Can we find creative ways to use the items on the list so that every item can be useful? 2) What happens next? I've run this game in both elementary school and college classrooms. It's excellent in any setting emphasizing creative thinking, teamwork, or leadership development.
Learners will not need any extra supplies.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Although I do include elements of adventure, excitement, and danger within the game, the upper elementary version is developmentally appropriate. Learners may end up having to live with poor choices or bad die rolls (for instance, a character having to sit out a round after eating the mystery berries), but no character ever "dies" or is out of the game for good.
