This is a live interactive online course and students may email the instructor if there are any questions. Father of the Symphony: Franz Joseph Haydn
Students will explore the concept of sound, focusing on key elements such as pitch, dynamics, tone color, and intervals. Students will delve into the significance of dynamics in music, understanding how variations in volume affect expression. Additionally, students will learn about Franz Joseph Haydn, often referred to as the "Father of the Symphony," examining his contributions to the development of the symphonic form and his influence on subsequent composers.

Understanding the Oratorio: George Friedrich Handel
Students will learn about the oratorio, a significant musical form that combines vocal and instrumental music, focusing on its historical context and characteristics. Transitioning from Classical to Romantic:Wolfgang Mozart to Ludwig van Beethoven

Romantic Period: Felix Mendelssohn and Franz Liszt
Students will explore the Romantic Period in music through the works of Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn. Students will examine Liszt's innovative piano compositions and virtuosic style, as well as Mendelssohn's contributions to symphonic and choral music, focusing on his ability to blend classical forms with Romantic expressiveness.

🎵 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻, 𝐏𝐡𝐃 🗣️ is Founder of the Music & Language Learning Center. Currently serves at the Banting Postdoctoral Fellow (2024-2026) at Concordia University, Montréal, she is also recipient of the Fulbright and Portuguese Science & Technology awards. She is an internationally known linguist, teacher, and professional musician who has taught on four continents. Her passion for service stemmed from her work as an AmeriCorps Vista Fellow. In her spare time, she likes to play with her pet rabbit, Señor Blanco.
