Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Leah Hughes and I love working with children and teaching music!

I currently hold and active professional teaching license in the state of Tennessee. I have been a public school elementary music teacher for 7 years. The school I taught at was a rural and low income school, with 100% of the students receiving free lunch. I have had the opportunity to teach many different types of learners!

I am currently a music teacher for a Montessori school, where I teach infants - 6th graders.

One fun fact about me is that I was once an au pair for a little 4 year old girl in France! My job was to teach her English. It was quite a rewarding experience. I love to incorporate foreign language as well as many cultural backgrounds in my classroom.

I believe music for children should be fun, empowering, and therapeutic.

I believe in order for a child to be successful in music, they have to believe in themselves. And that is where an excellent teacher comes in. It's my job to make your child feel like they can succeed. I will encourage, encourage, and encourage your child with any and every success they make inside my classroom.

I am NOT a professional musician. I didn't study at Juliard, and I certainly haven't performed at Carnegie Hall. I don't have a fancy resume full of all the places I have performed at. But I have stories and stories of children past, present, and (future!) who have and will touch my heart.

I AM a teacher first, and then a musician at heart.

I can't wait to teach your child.
