In this 4 week online class, students will complete the Intermediate Lessons that accompany Essential Elements Book 2.
Class experience
Prior experience is required. Students need to have played the saxophone for a minimum of 6 months and/or completed the Essential Elements Book 1. Completing the Essential Elements Book 2 during this class, we will average 2 pages per lesson and there will be required homework each class. I will begin each lesson with review of what was taught the previous week and expect students to demonstrate an understanding of the assigned and practiced exercise(s). Week 1- Review #126 as a group, #125 independently. Page 26 & 27 Review D.C. al Fine, introduce accelerando & legato. Homework: practice #132 & 133 page 34 #159 Week 2- warm up Pg 34 #159, independently play #132 or #133. page 28 & 29 introduce new symbol for measure repeat, and review accent notes. Homework: #141, 143 pg 35 #163 Week 3- warm up Pg 35 #163, independently play #141 or #143. Page 30 & 31 discuss major and minor scales (additional scales on page 37) homework #148 and pg 35 #167 Week 4- warm up pg 35 #167, independently #148 work on page 40 to play as an accompaniment (if you have the book with CD). Homework: practice pages 38 and 39 and you work on individual technique and skill building.
I have 30+ years experience playing saxophone. I have been in concert band, marching band and jazz bands. I currently play in the orchestra at my church, and have done so for the past 11 years. I have been giving lessons on Outschool since August 2020, and enjoy watching the excitement with each new learner as he/she begins on this incredible musical journey!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
