45 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Due to the fact that this is one class, students will not be assigned any homework but they will be assigned time to complete the work during class. If they do not complete the work, this will be due the following week via the platform. For extra practice, I give optional assignments.Assessment
Students will get a chance to be spotlighted and they can share their work. If they do not want to share their work, they will need to send their work to the teacher. Depending on how much time is left, and the number of students in the class, everyone will probably get a chance to share their work.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 4
Students will learn using a computer and interface. They will interact with the teacher through the outschool interface and can ask questions and message the teacher. I will be teaching your students how to organize their writing in order to form strong paragraphs (which would be the next course they can take with me if they so choose). We will cover five types of graphic organizers: Some examples are Star Diagram, Tree diagram. I will be teaching using a powerpoint and also give students plenty of time to practice the new skills. My teaching style revolves around the students. I use a question and answer format. I ask guided questions and encourage students to come to the right answers through direct guided questions. Students should be able to write complete sentences in order to take this class. The class time/ structure is broken down into the following 1. Beginning of class: Once all students are present, students will do free writing for the first 5 minute (whatever students choose). 2. Once they are through with the five minutes of writing, they may share their work. Because the class size is always small, all students have an opportunity to share if they choose to. 3. After sharing, students will be asked to fill out the KWL Chart (which will be either shared via powerpoint or PDF). 3. Middle of the class: 10-15 minutes will be dedicated to teaching about the three graphic organizers mentioned above (Star Diagram, Tree Diagram, and T Chart. This lesson will be taught using a Powerpoint presentation. 4. After the lesson, students will be expected to put into practice what they learned. They will be given 15 minutes to apply their learning. (Turn 5 minute writing time into the three types of graphic organizers). 5. The end of Class.: 10 minutes will be used for review which includes any last minute questions. Fill out the last column of the KWL Chart

Teacher expertise and credentials
As an author of over 12 books, I believe planning your writing is extremely important. Understanding that certain diagrams work best will strengthen a writer's final piece. I have been working with students and their writing for over 15 years. While teaching the 6th grade English class, students used planning and strong paragraphs to write their autobiographies which was published and available to family members. Students were extremely proud of their work and realized that they were strong writers as they persevered and used proper planning, edits and revisions.
