Learn to protect yourself online from predators

Class experience

Students will learn what online predatory behavior is? And How to identify predators? They will leave this session with skills to protect themselves from predators and the knowledge necessary to assert themselves if they are targeted by a predator.
I have a Bachelor of Social Work from Lock Haven University, and I studied graduate social work at West Chester. I also completed a Child Welfare for Baccalaureates program through the University of Pittsburgh in 2011. Additionally, I have over 100 hours of post-college child safety training, 2 years of experience training adults on child safety, and 4 years of experience working with youth in child welfare and foster care. I am studying for a Master's in Public Health at Southern New Hampshire University. For the past 5 years, I have been teaching in Philadelphia in middle school and currently high school setting.
A resource guide will be provided with instructions on how to update privacy settings on various platforms. Additionally, information for parents will be provided on how to protect your child from predators and open communication about online interactions.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Given the sensitive nature of the topic, it is important to note that some of the conversations may be triggering to anyone who has been a victim. Additionally, predators can be particularly violent and pose a life-threatening threat to youth. While we will not be focusing on the violence itself, it is important to be aware of the potential risks and to take steps to protect yourself and others.

Please keep in mind that participants may share something they know (saw on TV, heard online) about predators that is sexually violent or otherwise. If you or anyone else feels uncomfortable or triggered during the discussion, please let me know and we can take a break or adjust the conversation as needed. Your safety and well-being are my top priority.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
