Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 6
⭐️General⭐️
This is part 3 of a flexible full-curriculum science course for 5th and 6th-grade learners and contains 13 of 36 lessons covering the physics curriculum for the year. We will be learning through experiments, scientific observation, manipulatives, games, art, nature, videos, writing, and listening. The teacher will provide optional weekly extension activities and extra practice resources including outdoor activities, art activities, online activities, worksheets and games.

There are no live meetings in this class. Lessons are pre-recorded and are accompanied by Nearpod interactive presentations that contain gamified quizzes, VR field trips, simulations and more. Every lesson includes a hands-on activity. Weekly materials and classroom posts will provide opportunities for learners to extend, practice and share what we have explored in the recorded lesson.

🔆Part 3: Lessons 17-26🔆

17: Force
18: Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
19: Friction and Drag
20: Force and Motion | Newton's Laws

⭐️Class Structure⭐️

✔️Preview: Vocabulary words and a short video will be posted to the classroom before our meeting. The preview is optional and recommended. It will provide a good foundation and prerequisite knowledge prior to our class.

✔️New: A new science topic will be taught by recorded lesson and using a variety of hands-on activities, experiments, and online technologies. Lessons follow a presentation in Nearpod with interactive online and off-line elements. Each lesson includes a set of note sheets which match the presentation slides.

✔️Practice: Each week, learners will complete an in-class activity. This is often an experiment, scientific observation or guided drawing.

✔️Extension: Optional extension materials will be suggested to parents for ongoing practice at the parent's discretion. These can be a powerful part of your child’s learning. Weekly classroom posts will encourage learners to share the results of their in-class and extension activities.

⭐️Teaching Methods⭐️
I endeavour to teach each skill in multiple ways and through multiple media. Some examples are experiments, scientific observation, manipulatives, games, art, nature, videos, writing, listening, speaking and group work. I also aim to make each lesson relevant to the daily lives of my learners.

⭐️Interaction⭐️
Learners will interact with each other and the teacher through discussion, games and sharing of creative projects.

⭐️Prior Knowledge⭐️
Learners will be expected to have an understanding of 4th Grade science concepts. Learners will be encouraged to watch a related instructional video and review vocabulary posted to the classroom each week prior to watching the recorded lesson.
