Class Experience
In level 3 of Hands-On Algebra, students continue their journey through basic algebraic concepts. This program involves the manipulation of pawns (kind of like chess pieces) and numbered cubes in order to set up equations on a balance. They use "legal moves" such as removing a pawn from each side, removing a zero in the form of a positive and negative pawn, and subtracting the same number from both sides of the equation to learn the rules of solving equations. Students also learn to...
I have been teaching math for more than 25 years, and this program has proven itself time and time again to increase learning and motivation for students who are ready for a challenge. Many times we learn things by memorizing them, but math requires that we truly understand if we are to excel at higher levels. A firm foundation in algebra is essential for every other math course you will ever take. I love giving students the skills they will need to meet those challenges!
Students will need a Hands-On Equations student kit, which they should already have from levels 1 and 2.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students must have completed the Hands-On Algebra Level 2 course before enrolling in level 3.
