This course is specifically designed to review the various types of free response questions on Advanced Placement exams. In particular, we will review short answer questions (SAQs), long essay questions (LEQs), document based questions (DBQs). We can also review the four types of essay questions in the American Government and Politics exam. The format of the course will be as follows: Week of March 20 - SAQ practice - introduction to the ACE method Week of March 27- SAQ practice - ACE method applied to released questions For the month of March we will spend time reviewing and practicing released SAQs using the "ACE formula" - answer the questions, cite evidence and give an example. Students will be assigned SAQ and will work together and with the instructor to answer SAQs. Their answers will be compared to acceptable AP responses. Week of April 11- LEQ/DBQ practice - thesis/contextualization Week of April 18 - LEQ/DBQ practice - evidence/HIPP Week of April 25- LEQ/DBQ practice - evidence/HIPP Week of May 2 - LEQ practice - outside evidence/Complexity/historical thinking skills We will review released LEQs using the AP rubric.
