Flex: Spring Art Flex Class

In this 4 week flex class we will explore and create 4 different art projects with a Spring theme.

What's included

Class Experience

Love art? Do you enjoy creating art?  Now you can create art with instruction but at your own pace!  This is a flex class, perfect for working on art!  Videos with supplies and lessons are posted in the classroom but there are no live meetings. Step by step directions will be given but you will be able to stop and start as needed. Work when it fits your schedule.  
This flex class will run for 4 weeks.  Each week I will post a project and supply list.  In addition I will post a video with a step by step lesson to create the artwork. While you work feel free to pause the video and work at your own speed.  Review steps as you need so that you are successful in your work! Remember I will direct you but you are welcome and encouraged to make your own creative choices!  
Throughout the week I will post questions related both to Spring and our lesson. Real world examples of art similar to our lesson will shared and discussed. We will learn from these examples with critique including breaking down elements of art and principles of design. We will participate in polls and would you rathers!  Search and finds, along with scavenger hunts will also be included. Students are required to share answers and converse with the other learners!  It is a great way for us to get to know each other and have fun. Students will be required to post pictures or videos of their artwork.  It is a fantastic opportunity to engage in an artistic critique and discussion.  Sharing our artwork absolutely inspires creativity. I will offer constructive criticism and helpful hints.  Students should make kind compliments or ask questions about fellow students' artwork.  
Projects include: Mixed Media Spring Landscape, Blue Bird, Oil Pastel Flowers and Pop up Tulips.  
Week 1: The Mixed Media Spring landscape will include lessons on watercolor painting such as wash, variegated wash and gradual wash.  We will practice the art of torn paper as well as drawing and cutting shapes to create flowers.
Week 2: The Blue Bird will incorporate simple lines and shapes along with bright color.
Week 3:  The Oil Pastel flower drawing will focus on using lines and shapes to create various flowers.  We will add color with watercolor using the wash technique.
Week 4: Pop Up Tulips. We will use paper strips and shapes to create form. The forms will be folded and glued together to make a tulip picture.
Each lesson will incorporate how to use various elements of art and principles of design to create a piece of art.  We will experiment with different art materials throughout the flex course.

Hello! My name is Kim.  I am passionate about Art, it truly makes our world a better place!  I have taught art in public schools for over 8 years and privately for 4 years. However, I have loved art since I was a small child!  I have always loved doodling!  Sharing the love of art with students is especially fun.  In addition I have taught Preschool for over 2 years.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from The College of New Jersey with a minor in Psychology, concentration in Art Therapy.  During those studies I worked on various areas of art from sculpture, to printmaking to color theory and much more.  In addition I studied the art of teaching specifically in the area of art education.  I also have a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College.  
I live in a coastal town with my husband, 3 girls and miniature goldendoodle.  Besides creating art and being crafty I enjoy baking, reading and traveling...especially to Disney World!  Can't wait to see you in class.
