50 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Learners will gain confidence in writing while practicing their skills. Each week you'll receive a topic the day before class so your learner can feel prepared for class. The first day of class (Mon or Tues) we will brainstorm words/pictures to get ready to write our sentence(s). The second day (Tues or Thurs) we'll put ideas down on the paper to make interesting sentences! We will start with basic sentences and then discuss how to add details. Class will end with sharing and celebrating hard work if they would like to, but never forced. Learners should know letters, sounds, and have the basic concept of CVC words. Spelling is not expected to be perfect. The main focus of this class will NOT be spelling. We will talk about how to stretch words out and putting down the sounds we hear, but the ultimate goal is to get ideas on the paper and build confidence. Some learners may accomplish to write 1 sentence and others more. Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace and add a picture if they have time. I love a highly interactive class, but learners will be expected raise hands and take turns just as in a regular classroom. I rarely mute, but please show your child how to mute/unmute in case the need arises (dogs, siblings, parents on the phone, distracting background noise). Week of 9/19- All about me! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Kara! As a former 1st Grade teacher, preschool teacher, and current stay at home mom to 3 (ages 12, 9, and 5) I know there is nothing more important than learning through play. In my classes we'll have fun, be challenged, and learn from each other. I have also taught over 1,000 English classes online and am very comfortable with the online teaching dynamic. I have a heart for young learners and sparking imagination. When I'm not teaching I love to cook, read, run, and travel. I can't wait to see you in my "classroom"!
