Very “hands on” art making in this class! In this course we will make cute whimsical animals using fingerprints and a pen/marker. Students will learn different techniques and get plenty of opportunity to create their own animal scene. My approach for this class is step by step, but also open ended, with lots of freedom for students to choose their own colours, style and composition. Class will be kept upbeat through topical songs, poems and conversation. Opportunity will be given to share their work with the class and ask questions. My goal is for students to have an art experience that is full of joy, curiosity, and exploration! These whimsical creatures are a fantastic confidence-building low-pressure project for both students who love art as well as those that are hesitant.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a lifelong creative. I hold a BFA in Studio Art, and have an active studio practice. I currently work mostly in painting, drawing, and printmaking, but I love all sorts of making and have experience working with photography, fibre, installation art, audio, ceramics, and more!
I am passionate about conservation, the environment, world history, art history, and minority cultures, and these themes and connections come up in my classes as appropriate. Art always has context.
I have experience teaching art classes to children in galleries, schools, and community settings, and am excited to take this experience online to create dynamic learning experiences. I believe art is so many things, self-expression, discovery, skill-building, empowering, and healing. Whenever possible, I try to include in my classes opportunities to learn new skills alongside opportunities for personal expression: structure and creativity. I hope to help my students learn to notice the world around them and inside them and find ways to translate that visually.
Something fun about me: I love to explore! I love to travel, hike forest trails, and discover new places and experiences.
