In this poetry and art workshop, learners will have a chance to be exposed to many different kinds of poets and poetry styles and artists to broaden their understanding of what the creative process is, and to deepen their knowledge on the power of poetry. Each week we will look at a new poem and or artists, the poet/artist's historical and cultural significance, as well as learn to closely analyze the text with literary devices and formal artistic qualities. This class will be full of...
Students will feel more empowered to use the written language to express who they are. Students will also learn to be more confident in their own creativity and be pushed to explore topics that connect themselves to the world.
Each week the student will be assigned a reading as well as a creative writing/and or drawing assignment.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The student will receive written feedback if they continue with the entirety of the semester. This feedback will consist of what they've improved on, what the student's strengths are, and also any observations on what kind of characteristics the student wants to build in themselves. For example, through the class the student might understand why they are shy in school, since these poetic explorations are very personal. If this is the case, I will include ways in which the student expressed their needs in case the parents want to learn more about how to support the student.
1 hour 5 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
