What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will complete a weekly activity or experiment on their own. They are welcome to post questions in the classroom if help or guidance is needed.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
This flex class will focus on hands on science activities and experiments. Some will have a fall and/or outdoor focus to encourage children to get outside! Each week we will complete a Fall themed science activity to include chemistry, the scientific method, buoyancy and playground physics. Being a flex class, learners will visit the classroom each week to see an introduction video to that week's activity or experiment, including a listing of materials needed for the week. The second weekly video will be the experiment or activity and the final video of the week will be a follow up/wrap up for the week. Learners will interact with each other and the teacher by posting videos or pictures of their experiments/activities and commenting on other learners' videos. Group discussions will take place in the classroom throughout the week. In addition, there will be extra enrichment activities posted in the classroom to extend learning on our weekly topic. Weekly videos will be posted each Monday of class, unless the Monday falls on one of the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. In those cases, the first video of the week will be posted on Tuesday. Week 1: Making a Solar Oven Can we cook marshmallows with a solar oven we build? Week 2: Playground Physics-Ramp Races Who will win the race? A can of beans or a can of liquid? Week 3: Slime & the Scientific Method We'll make our own slime to test different recipes. Week 4: Chemical Reactions Erupting Pumpkins

Some activities will include the use of vinegar
Supply List
A supply list will be provided each week for the activity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from George Mason University
Hi! My name is Amber. I'm a homeschooling mom of two and I joined outschool to provide fun & educational content to preschoolers and elementary aged students. I love hands on learning and enjoy offering classes that offer that opportunity. I provide classes on hands on science, nature based learning, STEM and book clubs. My classes often follow my own kids interest, so you'll likely see classes involving space, dinosaurs and legos. My professional background is in early childhood education. I hold a Bachelors degree in Family and Child Development and an M.Ed in Early Childhood Special Education. I plan to offer my students engaging classes and hands on learning in a variety of topics. If there's a class you're looking for that I might be able to help with, please let me know. I look forward to seeing you in class!
