In this section of Essentials of Singing, Heidi will introduce the concept of pitch and how singers can improve their pitch with a few consistently used exercises. The outline of the class will discuss the following questions: 1. What is pitch? A. A technical definition, which will be expounded upon differently each week 2. Are some people really tone-deaf? A. A study of perception 3. Can pitch accuracy always be improved? A. Another study of perception 4. How can pitch accuracy be improved? A. Building self-awareness B. Specific exercises Some sections may be summarized or expounded upon further based on the specific needs of the group. Be prepared to stand if requested, and have a notebook and pencil nearby for taking notes. A larger screen may be useful for slides, illustrations, and/or videos used in the presentation. This class requires no specific prerequisites, but students are welcome to move through the Essentials of Singing series in the order/level listed if they like. Group exercises will be highly beneficial for both first time and returning students. Students are welcome to attend this course multiple times until they feel they have adequately understood the topic.
Learning Goals
Students will leave with a greater understanding of pitch and how to develop their own sense of pitch.

Parental Guidance
Heidi may use videos/audio from mainstream pop/rock music for examples. She will always pursue family friendly material when possible but some content may be unsuitable for the highly conservative families.
