We will cover expository essay basics, including essay structure, paragraph structure, how to break down and understand a writing prompt, and how to apply personal interests to academic writing assignments. Students will have time to brainstorm and discuss ideas during class. Then, they will have one week from the class date to write and submit their own work. Mr. Conway will review and return their graded work with comments and suggestions. Students will leave class with more confidence, and tools, tips, and thinking skills that they can apply to any writing assignment. A paper and a pen or pencil to take notes is recommended.

Ted Conway has spent his teaching career working with students of all ages that need extra support due to unique life experiences and/or learning styles. He understands the time it takes to learn new skills, and that no student wants to fail — no matter how reluctant they may seem.
For the past seven years, he has taught English, English as a Second Language, Reading, and Writing to students from 7th through 12th grade, and is certified by the Texas Education Agency in English Language Arts & Reading and English as a Second Language.
Ted earned his BA in Professional Writing from the University of New Mexico in 2011 and went on to earn an MFA in Screenwriting from Hollins University in 2015. He also holds an A.A.S. in Culinary Arts and is a trained vegan chef!
When Ted isn't teaching or studying, he is usually working on a screenplay, creating music, editing video, or cooking up a feast!
