Have you ever wondered what the singer is singing about? In this class, we will learn the structure of a song, and the types of descriptive language that is used to help the listener feel emotions. Several "Lyrical Literacy" classes are available. The song for this class is called "Fearless" by Taylor Swift. PLEASE NOTE: It is highly recommended to listen to the song before class. You can watch music videos, or videos with lyrics at YouTube.com. We will take a look at each line of the song and uncover the parts of speech, descriptive language, metaphors, and other techniques used by the songwriter. We will discuss how the words make us feel, and what we think the author was trying to tell his/her audience. Each member of class will have the opportunity to share their opinions and thoughts on the song. I hope to see you there!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their cognition of parts of speech, descriptive language, metaphors, and other techniques using song lyrics. They will learn to socialize with others in a safe environment.

I have been a librarian for over a decade. In this time, I have worked with students of all ages (college to elementary) on their reading, organization, and grammar skills. I have also been teaching English online for the last three years. I have been with VIPKid, an online ESL teaching program, for 3 years, and I have been with Magic Ears (another ESL teaching program) for the last year. In this time, I have learned to elicit total physical response while engaging young learners, teaching curriculum based on learning English as a second language. I have worked in both one-on-one and four-on-one virtual settings. I am comfortable with all ages and larger groups of children.
