A self paced course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom/private learner messaging, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner; however, this is not required.

Participation will include an introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the Outschool Classroom/private learner messaging. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with peers and the teacher. Participation in assignments allows students to practice and reinforce learning. This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary. Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of weekends.

******Courses are not graded unless requested. If grades are needed, please let me know upon enrollment or prior to the course beginning to arrange submission of work for grading/feedback. Thank you.********

Syllabus

20 Lessons
over 10 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Earth's Dynamic Story: Minerals, Rocks, and the Rock Cycle
Embark on a geological journey! Explore minerals' properties and formation. Investigate the three rock types and their interplay in the rock cycle. Discover how Earth's processes shape its surface over time. Gain a deep understanding of geology's fundamental concepts.
Lesson 2:
"Exploring Earth's Layers & Rock Cycle with Crayons Lab
Uncover Earth's secrets! Dive into its layers: crust, mantle, and core. Conduct a fun Crayon Lab to mimic rock cycle processes. Melt, cool, and reshape crayons to understand geological transformations. Gain hands-on insights into Earth's dynamic processes.
Lesson 3:
Tectonic Plates & Continental Drift Theory
Embark on a journey through Earth's shifting puzzle! Explore tectonic plates and Alfred Wegener's continental drift theory. Investigate plate boundaries, earthquakes, and volcanoes. Gain a deep understanding of Earth's dynamic geology and its impact on landforms.
Lesson 4:
Tectonic Plates Interactive Lab & Plate Boundary Events
Engage in an interactive lab on tectonic plates! Discover plate boundaries like divergent, convergent, and transform. Investigate geological events like earthquakes and volcanoes at these boundaries. Gain hands-on insights into Earth's dynamic processes and their impact on our planet.

Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I've been teaching middle school comprehensive science (Earth, Life, Physical & Nature of Science) since 2014 and I taught 5th-grade science prior to moving to middle school. I currently help design activities that support the K-8th curriculum for all of the math & science teachers. I will be incorporating reading and writing in this science course as well. I have a master's degree in reading and writing, and I am a firm believer in reading and writing in the content area.
