In this "ongoing," drop in class, students will sing, dance, and make music using household items! Every class will begin with students sharing their names and a brief check in, and then diving into a vocal and physical warm up. This may include singing a song together about moving the body like "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," giving our different body parts a sound/word (for example, whenever we shake our arm we say "Cha cha cha!" and whenever we shake our leg we say "Boom boom boom!"), and going on a vocal roller coaster (which is almost as fun as a real roller coaster!). We will then move on to the instrument portion of class, where we'll use household items to sing various songs. These items might include cardboard boxes, spoons and pots/pans, pencils, old plastic water bottles, and more. After we decide how we'll use these instruments we'll sing a series of songs using these instruments to accompany us. Songs will typically feature nursery rhymes or beginner music songs that help with language, counting, the alphabet, and more. We will take a short break in the middle of class to hydrate and use the restroom if students need to step away, and then come back with a little freeze dance to shake our sillies out and explore our own movement. The second half of class will be used to create our own song! Miss Lauryn will help guide students to choose what we sing about, how we'll sing it, and then work together to create the song. We will then have a final performance at the end of class for anyone at home who wants to watch! Students will be given a moment to gather their audience and get into a costume (something simple to be put on over clothes is recommended) to help them feel their best for our small performance. The goal here is to celebrate our hard work rather than work toward a final product! We will then sing a little goodbye song until the next class! Drop in classes are a terrific opportunity for students to come and explore music without the commitment of having to attend class each week. Students who are able to attend each week will continue to develop their skills and, over time, they might find that they choose to do the more advanced options in class (such as playing more complex rhythms with their instruments, feeling confident to sing louder, etc.)
Learning Goals
By the end of our session, students will have a new knowledge of different types of music and how we can access music in a variety of ways. They might also learn some new songs!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students should be in a space where they have room to move (seated with headphones is not advisable for this class!). Students should also wear sensible footwear (no open toe shoes or heels). Barefoot or socked feet are welcome! Please also have water, juice, lemonade, or some type of liquid nearby to stay hydrated throughout class (soda would not be the best choice to stay hydrated!).
Students will also be asked each week to have some sort of object ready for class. This will be posted on the Classroom page at least 24 hours in advance, so please do check in there!

This will be posted on the Classroom page at least 24 hours in advance, so please do check in there to make sure your student has the best possible experience! The following is OPTIONAL: If the student chooses, they may have costume pieces to put on for our final performance in the last five minutes of class. Or, if they'd rather come dressed to impress, they can feel free to wear their costume the entire class! Please note the instructor will NOT appear in costume!

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a baby, preschool, and elementary theatre and music teacher, I have worked with students ages 5 months to 12 years in this format. I believe that exploring music in a variety of ways (using our body, homemade instruments, and more) allows students to discover new ways to be creative, while challenging them to remember specific words and melodies keeps their brains sharp. I'm so eager to bring this particular class option to students as it keeps us making music during these uncertain times, and lets them develop a relationship with other students all over the world. This is a unique class in that students have the chance to perform songs from their living rooms!
