Upon completion of the course lecture, the student will be able to define the following terms: positions in terms of names and numbers, symbols and route symbols, pass and cut, down screen action, mid screens, and play integration Students will become familiar with the correct drawing of plays using the universal language/symbols of drawing basketball plays. Students will also be placed into collaborative coaching situations based on statistics to determine if their strategy on particular plays are successful or not.

Students will become familiar with the correct drawing of plays using the universal language/symbols of drawing basketball plays. Finally, students will contribute to a document that will include their plays as well as the plays of their classmates.

Students will need a paper and pencil to draw their plays and eventually submit their plays to the instructor so he can create the playbook for the students.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I'm in the business of teaching and working with kids. I have had the privilege of working with students from Kindergarten through Seniors in College. That wide age span has provided me a lot of experience in teaching. However, I am always open to suggestions on how to teach and reach your particular student. We all prefer to learn differently!
Below is my official biography used in my syllabi for my classes.
Carl received his BA in Political Science and Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science in 1990 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his MA in Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science in 1992 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his Ed D in Education at Liberty University in 2019.
Carl had the unique experience in his MA studies of being on the ground level of the World League of American Football (now known as NFL - Europe) working with the Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks. Carl has been with Central Carolina since 1992.
He was awarded the 2010 Circle of Excellence Instructor of the Year at Central Carolina .
Through an interview process with the North Carolina Community College System, he was named as one of the top five community college instructors for 2010. He was recently awarded the 2020 Central Carolina Community College Excellence in Advising Award in the Fall 2020 semester.
He is a Gold Level Sports coach through the NYSCA and has credentials in coaching from Cal Ripken baseball, Pop Warner, and Football America. An avid youth sports supporter, he has coached soccer, basketball, baseball, and football in Lee County North Carolina through Lee County Recreation, UpWard Basketball, Sanford Area Soccer League, Pop Warner, Broadway Optimist, Northview Optimist, Dirt Devils Baseball, and Young Guns Baseball and Softball.
Carl is a Certified Personal Trainer and Sport Nutrition Specialist with the National Council on Strength and Fitness and a Health Coach through the American Council on Exercise.
He now serves as Department Chair of Health and Fitness Science and teaches Physical Education, Health and Fitness Science classes at Central Carolina as well as being an adjunct faculty member of Campbell University located in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
