An ongoing, fun art class to teach students the basics of 2D drawing

Class experience

Students will learn how to break down their art concepts into shapes and lines, learning perspective and proportions.

Often, artists think too hard about the detail rather than distilling the art into its most simplistic form and then, build outward from there. It is a skill that is difficult to master but once it is there, they can draw anything. This foundation class will build art skills that can be applied to any medium of art.

Through this class series, the focus is to build hand eye coordination, dexterity and the skill set needed for more complex detail. As student become familiar with breaking down their ideas into shapes and lines, we expand their understanding by learning about shape and form, light and shadow, perspective, color theory and composition.
Homework Offered
Any homework is optional. Classwork can be completed in class and students have the option of adding more detail during the week
0 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
A sketch book, drawing pencils and eraser are highly recommended. Loose paper will work fine but please ensure that the paper is filed neatly as it is beneficial for your artist to review their previous drawings and see how far they have come!

From time to time, we shall work with colored pencils, water colors and other art supplies. If so, this shall be posted in class for the week ahead. Extra art supplies will always be optional and flexible given that I am aware not every household will have this on hand.
Note to parents: This class is intended to be a social art class with student interactions. We share our work with each other, talk about our ideas and add some humor. In my experience, is important to create a fun, engaging atmosphere while we learn art. Students who have fun, want to also continue. As we move to intermediate art (the next class up), we scale back on interactions and focus more seriously on the art content. In advanced art, it is a more technique focused class.
