Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner - Advanced Level
Take Domino Chains to the next step! There are so many engineering challenges that create different chain reactions or can be built with different simple materials. This is a self pace class that teaches 5 new chain reaction challenges for more advanced domino artists.

These challenges will inspire hours of creative domino building. The challenges start off by teaching children how to make simple domino chains for the beginner to more complex ideas. After these challenges are learned, the sky is the limit!

These Domino challenges are designed to help kids take their domino chain reaction building to a whole new level! Building with dominoes has so many benefits such as increased creativity, building patience, concentration, design skills, and hand-eye coordination.

These activities are great for children ages 7 to 12, however some children may be able to complete the activities at a younger age and some children may need additional help.

These activities can be completed with any type of domino, however there are dominoes you can purchase off Amazon that were created specifically for Chain Reactions.

What engineering challenges will be taught?
*Under the bridge- create a chain reaction up, down and under a bridge of blocks.
*Falling Tower- build a tower chain reaction that collapses!
*Rolling Reaction- Making a domino chain that bumps a ball, which rolls down a ramp and knocks into more dominoes.
*Ball Drop- Create a chain reaction where a falling ball knocks down more dominoes
*Changing Directions- Creating a lever that activates a second chain reaction.

What will the schedule look like?
This is a self paced class, which means there are no live meetings. Each lesson can be viewed and completed on your own time. This is a simple outline on when video challenges will be coming out and what to expect next.

Week 1- Under the Bridge
Week 2- Falling Tower
Week 3- Rolling Reaction & Ball Drop
Week 4- Changing Direction
Week 5- Final Project & Sharing

Students will receive a lesson video and "Challenge Guide" each Sunday by 10PM (EST) for the week. On Wednesdays a discussion/ check in will be posted to share how students are doing and if there are any questions. I will be available for live chats or meetings to answer any questions or help in any way I can throughout the week. Students will be encouraged to video their challenge to share with their classmates and/or post a discussion on how your challenge went by Friday of each week.

Always encourage kids to change up the designs from each challenge. Create different reactions in each challenge making them bigger, smaller, longer, shorter, different directions etc. Have fun and get creative!

Learning Goals

Students will learn what a chain reaction is and different challenges to create domino rallys.
Students will also learn patience, hand eye coordination, concentration, design skills, and creativity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
I'm Ashley. I'm was a second grade teacher for 8 years and lucky enough to get to stay home with my three kiddos. I love spending time with them and making fun activities they enjoy, but still want to share the joy of learning with others. I'm excited to be able to teach some fun, educational activities as kids play, learn, and grow!
