US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner Level
This 4 week course uses numerous multiplication strategies and allows students to find the method that works best for them. Common core style "new" math is discussed as well as traditional, "classical" math that many of the parents are used to. This beginning course focuses on single digit multiplication. We work at the pace of the specific group, meaning you can't "fail" this course because there are so many different ways to solve problems, and it might take us a minute to get there...
Lyndsay Capshaw has a B.A. in Human Development as well as a current Colorado Elementary Teaching License. She has over 20 years of professional experience working with children. Lyndsay is an excellent math teacher because at one point, she was a struggling mathematician. Lyndsay found out in college that she was dyslexic and had been reading math problems backwards. She had to work incredibly hard as adult to "re-learn" math, and she had a teacher in college who really helped her get the resources she needed. This created a passion within Lyndsay to help students realize they are good at math, they just might not have the tools they need yet. It also formed a love of math within her that students find inspirational and motivating.
Homework Offered
Optional homework will be assigned to families who would like extra practice. The homework will be 1-2 worksheets that can be printed at home. A youtube video link might also be included as homework. It would be no more than 5 minutes and it would be to assist with skip counting. Homework is assigned individually so each student gets something they actually need to work on; it's not busy work.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

This class is absolutely designed to be inclusive of ALL learners. I will work with every family to find a way for their student to be successful in any of my classes.
Students should be able to skip count by 2 and 5 (2, 4, 6, 8, up to 20 and 5, 10, 15 up to 50).
Paper and Pencil OR Whiteboard and Marker Homework will be links to K5 learning worksheets that can be printed at home or just copied onto paper. Homework may also include a YouTube video to help with skip counting.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Worksheets that are assigned for homework are from K5 Learning which is not an approved resource. I use it because it's free and the best way to get the numerous worksheets I need to be able to assign individualized homework.
I am using Common Core Math Standards to ensure I'm teaching what necessary. This isn't necessarily addressed with students.
