Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(155)
In this 2-day course, kids will design characters like they are on a professional assignment.

Class experience

1. Students will experience what a project assignment in the commercial world could look like
2. Students will have to work within the confines of a deadline
3. Students will learn how to simplify drawing cartoons by working with shapes
4. Students will learn about the concept of using research to aid in their drawing
5. Students will learn about the process of inking their outlines to make a final line drawing
6. Students will learn about some basics with color and apply it to their designs
Homework Offered
There will be homework assigned with this class. Students will be expected to take what they learned in class 1 and apply it to the overall drawing assignment that they will complete, in color, and present to the class for review during the second class.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
An informal assessment will be made at different stages of the class through in-class drawing exercises and culminating in a final review of the finished piece of art on day 2 of class. At that time, not only will the teacher comment, but other students will have the opportunity and encouragement to comment on other's work, again with a focus on positive reinforcement.
Grades Offered
There will be a handout provided prior to class that will include some reference material relevant to that day's drawing assignment theme. While it's not required to be printed out prior to class, It will be helpful to do so.
Other materials required for class follow:
1. paper (for drawing)
2. pencils
3. eraser
4. black pen (preferably art pen, felt tip, or gel pen; not thick sharpie or ball point) {We will be using the pen to make outlines}
5. color (This is up to what the individual is comfortable working in. Colored pencil, crayon, markers. Please no paint, pastel, or chalk)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There is no questionable content in the curriculum of this class. Please remember, it is an art class, and while I will encourage students to be respectful in what they draw, it is ultimately up to them what they produce.
There will be a power-point, slide presentation including works by other artists that will be properly credited.
