Class Experience

Our brains are wired in ways that can TRICK our logical thinking and cause us to make choices in ways that don't always make a lot of sense. Let's watch a movie & play a game! In our 90-minute game we will EXPOSE twenty of the most common biases and CREATE SOLUTIONS together. Don't forget to bring your own popcorn & favorite beverage!

This movie was written, directed, and created by young people to show decisions students face. Margo (the main character in the film) is trying to decide about her plans after High School. We will use this opportunity to talk about and unpack education & life choices. Many factors shape our frame – or, in other words, how each of us sees the world.

We gamify learning to make it fun and memorable. Amy will introduce the topic for 15-20 minutes then lead the game, play the video, and facilitate interactive discussions. We provide the digital resources and discussion prompts. This course is facilitated by Amy Day and for large classes, Kristen Jawad comes as a guest co-facilitator from our nonprofit, Clarity4Action.org.

Students should expect a dynamic and fun classroom with activated and applied learning that addresses a variety learning styles. Our intention is to create an accepting, civil, supportive, and inclusive classroom.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach Decision Fitness: Skills for a Happy Life. My intention is to create a learning environment that is friendly, welcoming, and fun for all types of learners. I enjoy facilitating young people because they bring authenticity, creativity, and enthusiasm to their learning. Magic occurs when a person dreams big, believes in themselves, and takes action. Our interactive courses have been designed with this in mind.

I hold a BA in Economics and am able to translate brainy decision science into common language. I bring the power of quality decision making and tools for action to everyday people. My father was a founder in the field of Decision Analysis so I feel like a decision making 'native speaker.' I hold certifications in Decision Quality for Educators, Advising, and Coaching from Stanford University and is a Society of Decision Professionals member. I bring a breadth of professional non-profit experience and 19-years in alternative education. I am a parent of three young adults who were all hybrid-homeschooled.

Some fun facts about me are 1.) I was an exchange student in school and speak Spanish, 2.) I’ve never known a stranger, and 3.) I have 16 chickens and 3 chicks - we do not eat our chickens, we love them!
