Class Experience

In this one time course, students will learn how to line up the decimal place and add and subtract decimals.  

We will begin the class by using a song to understand how to properly add and subtract decimals.  Students will do some practice problems to show their understanding. Then students will participate in a "Decimal Diner" where they will practice ordering food from a menu and total up how much they will pay for their meal. 

Students should leave class with an understanding of how to add and subtract decimals using real-world examples.

It's important for students to have a background with decimal place value.

Learning Goals

Students will gain an understanding of addition and subtraction of decimals and be able to apply it to a real-world example.

Hello!  I am a credentialed elementary education teacher.  I graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD with a bachelor's in Elementary Education with minors in Special Education and Psychology.  I have taught in public and private schools in grades Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.  I have lived all over the United States as my husband served 20 years in the US Navy. I was born and raised in Minnesota, went to college in South Dakota, got my first job teaching in Arizona,  moved to San Diego, California, then across the country to Virginia and we have finally returned home to Minnesota to stay. I have a passion for teaching math, arts and crafts, music, and science.  I believe in teaching to the whole child.  It's so important to ensure all of their needs are being met.  Children learn through success, practice, and enjoyment.  I will encourage students to try their best and keep at it until they find that success to propel them forward!  I am a mom to two beautiful girls, a passionate Cricut crafter, hiker, and absolutely adore my two dogs, Nadie and Lakota.  I look forward to working with your child!
