Class Experience

Cursive writing is becoming a lost art. Learning to write in cursive is shown to improve brain development in the areas of thinking, language and working memory. Cursive handwriting stimulates both your right and left hemispheres, which is something printing and typing does not do.
For each class we will review different letters, including both upper and lower case. Along with the alphabet, we will practice the size, shape, curve, spacing, and placement of letters in words, sentences, and projects.

The start of every class, the students will play a fun dice game where they will have 5 random letters or words that they will practice. I will provide feedback and time for corrections.
From there we will practice 3 words that go along with the joke or riddle of the day. I will provide tips and strategies to help master spacing, shape, curving, and placement.
We will copy a silly and fun riddle or joke, that the children can share with family and friends.
At the end of class, I will provide the students with directions to a fun and creative project that goes along with the lesson of that day.
Projects include, but not limited to:

Week of (April 18-22) Name Project
Working on your size of the letters. Is each of your letters the right height and resting neatly on the lines?

Week of (April 25-29) Funny Picture Short Story
Working on your slant. Do all your letters slant in the same directions?

Week of (May 2-6) Make our own madlib (monsters)
Working on your shape. Are all of your letters the right shape and closed where they should be?

Week of (May 9-13) Poetry: Couplet
Working on your spacing. Are all of your letters and words evenly spaced?

Week of (May 16-20) Thank You Cards with watercolors
Working on your smoothness. Do all of your letters have the same line thickness?

I have been an educator for over 10 years, and a homeschool mom. I taught many students how to write in cursive and seen how much it has helped them with their memory and thinking skills. I have used these methods with my daughter when she was in second grade, and her writing and reading skills have expanded.
