Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Intermediate Level
This class is led by an occupational therapist with 23 years experience working with children.

Each week we will learn location, diet, habitat, and three unique facts about a new reptile. We will review the 3 rules to neat handwriting, and I will provide individual feedback for each student throughout the class. Students will be provided an optional fact sheet to print and fill out each week that can be made into a fun book. Learners can also use lined notebook paper. We will use pictures, slides, class discussions, and worksheets.

I use Handwriting Without Tears and the Size Matters Handwriting Program as the underlying curriculum in all of my classes. I also utilize strategies and techniques that I have developed over 20 years in public schools.

This class is best for students with a basic ability to write the letters of the alphabet. Students can join anytime. My weekly topics are based on my learner’s interests and I keep a list of what reptiles they most want to learn about. For this reason, each of my sections cover different reptiles each week.

Learners have the opportunity to choose a reptile for us to learn about. Learners take turns choosing the reptile for the following week.

DISCLOSURE: I am an Occupational Therapist. However, these classes are not to be considered occupational therapy treatment sessions and should not take the place of therapeutic interventions.

Learning Goals

1. Identify the 3 rules to neat handwriting.
2. Work on correct letter formation.
3. Learn 3 interesting facts each week about a different reptile.

Learning Needs

Parental Guidance
As we delve into the fascinating world of reptiles, it's important to note that I may touch upon topics related to nature, including aspects of reproduction and occasional violence observed in the animal kingdom. I approach these subjects with sensitivity and age-appropriate language, but I encourage you to engage with your child and provide additional context or guidance as needed. My aim is to foster curiosity and understanding while respecting diverse family values and beliefs.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center
My name is Stephanie and I worked as a school-based Occupational Therapist for over 20 years, helping children ages 3–21 in public schools. Most of the students I worked with were between 4 and 8 years old and had autism, ADHD, or learning differences.

I know that handwriting can be hard for many kids. My goal is to help your child feel confident and proud of their progress. I focus on building strong connections with my students and always use kind, gentle corrections. I often teach through group demonstrations and encourage students to share their handwriting struggles. This helps them see they are not alone.

I’ve completed all of the Learning Without Tears workshops and use both the Learning Without Tears and Size Matters Handwriting Programs in my classes. I believe the best way to learn is through fun, laughter, and engaging activities. I use humor and silliness to keep learning light and enjoyable!

I’m also very flexible. If your child needs to miss an ongoing class, just send me a message during that same week—before or after—and I’ll be happy to refund you for that session.

A Note from Me

I’ve lived with a chronic illness since I was 12, and in the past few years, it has sometimes affected my energy. I do everything I can to make sure it doesn't impact my classes, but once in a while I may need to cancel. I’m sharing this with you because I believe honesty and communication are important, and I want to be open with all my families.

If you ever have questions or ideas for a new class, please feel free to message me. I’d love to hear from you!
