US Grade 8 - 11
Do you have a young writer who would benefit from a writer's retreat, but they are either too young or just unable to attend one in general? I designed this course to give young writers a chance to take a step out of their ordinary lives, focus on working on a creative writing piece and attaining writing goals, and meet other young writers like themselves. To help immerse students in a writer's retreat experience, I will provide students with a suggested itinerary for their workday...
Students will be able to manage their time in order to achieve their writing goals, as well as learn best practices for writing, publishing, and peer review
I have a master's degree in English and Creative Writing.
Homework Offered
Students will be encouraged to write either before and/or after our daily meetings. I suggest an hour before and an hour after each day's meeting (i.e. after Day 1, before and after Day 2, and before Day 3). However, students are free to write as much or as little as they would like and/or their personal schedule allows. I will also have videos for students to watch in the place of the workshops and speakers one may find at a traditional writer's retreat (see Class Experience above for more details).4+ hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
My 1-on-1 feedback time with students on Day 3 will allow me to see how students have grown in this time, as well as what they can do to further improve their creative writing skills.Grades Offered
1 file available upon enrollmentA suggested writer's retreat itinerary will be provided in the Welcome post.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
We will be using Google Slides as a means to do writing activities. Specifically, we will use it for our writing-based games on Day 1. Students will need a Google account to use it, though. If you do not, please let me know, and we can work something out.
✨AVAILABILITY UPDATE: I am currently teaching at a local community college full-time from January through April 2024. I will be teaching some classes here on Outschool when the semester is over, but I won't know my availability until I get my...
