Class Experience
In this Flex (No live meetings) course, students will learn strategies to create their own digital escape room with google forms and google sites. This is a beginner level course and will be taught as if students have no prior experience with google forms and creating escape rooms. Students will need a google account in order to participate in this course. Each week we will focus on a few key skills and time will be allotted for students to apply those skills. By the week's end, students will be expected to have a portion of their escape room completed. New instructional videos will be released every Sunday and assignments should be completed by Thursday to allow time for assistance and feedback. Students will be challenged weekly to solve, create, and share different elements of their escape rooms. We will share what we have learned through the classroom Seesaw page (classroom code provided upon enrollment). In addition, students are expected to share the link to their escape rooms with the teacher in week 2 through the remainder of the course and with classmates in week 5. WEEK 1: Escape Room Basics & The Art of Story Telling In this introductory week, we will explore some elements that make digital escape rooms fun and successful. We will explore several different digital escapes rooms to gather inspiration and get our idea flowing. Creating an enticing storyline to keep your escapers engaged is important! This week we will also create the backstory for our escape room. WEEK 2: Puzzles, Tasks, and Clues What's an escape room without puzzles, tasks, and clues? This week we will explore several options for puzzles and narrow down 4 to include in our escape room. WEEK 3: Creating a Google Site This week we will take our storyline and use it to create the visual for our escape room as a google site. We will explore the tools and options for building our websites. WEEK 4: Lock 'em in In week 4 we will learn to create locks in google forms and embed them into our google site. WEEK 5: Escape the rooms During this final week, we will put the final touches on our escape rooms and share them with our classmates. Who can escape the most rooms? Each learner will be expected to explore at least 3 escape rooms and provide classmates with feedback. To be successful in this course, students must be able to follow multi-step instructions and apply learned skills independently.
