Assessment
As part of day four, students will be encouraged to take a step back from their creations and identify what is and is not working well. While I will not be assessing their level of creative ability as that is relative, I will be providing personal guidance on what skills students can work on to improve their workflow during class.

Class Experience

Have you ever wanted to create your own themed adventure in Minecraft but just haven't been sure where to start? Whether you are a beginner Minecraft player or a master builder, there is something for you in this class! Back for its 3rd summer, this best-selling 5 day camp will take you into the world of game design, where you will test out your ideas with other learners and create your own puzzle-filled adventure maps that you can share with your friends.

━━━━ 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡 ━━━━

🗺𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗢𝗡𝗘: We'll be playing a sample Adventure map, going over what makes games exciting, and coming up with a theme to set the stage for our own maps.

🧩𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗧𝗪𝗢: This day is set design and puzzle brainstorming day! We'll create the visual foundation for our maps and check out some well-decorated examples. I will briefly introduce WorldEdit for those that want to utilize this mod to help build their adventure maps, though we will not be using it in our server. (Bedrock players cannot use the WorldEdit mod)

🧱𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘: Redstone day! We will take a look at some puzzle contraptions that utilize redstone and test out different ways we can implement this powerful tool into our maps.

🎁𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥: We'll go over command blocks and how they can streamline the player's experience and make our maps more fun. We will also go over balancing our maps to make sure the difficultly level is just right and add finishing details like rewards and endings.

🍿𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗩𝗘: Showcase day! While we won't have enough time to play through everyone's maps, students will have the chance to show off their favorite parts of their maps to the rest of the group and receive feedback as we wrap up an awesome week.

━━━━ 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟 ━━━━

✏️Students will need a basic proficiency in reading, some prior experience in and familiarity with Minecraft, and knowledge of computer navigation (if they'd like to install the WorldEdit mod).

━━━━ 𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 ━━━━

⏰For a majority of this class, students will be learning game design and playtesting their ideas together in a group server. They will likely need additional time outside of class to work on their personal adventure maps.

🎮 All devices EXCEPT Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PS4/5 will work for this class. You do not need your own Realms subscription to join us for camp! Instructions to add the server to your Minecraft game will be on the classroom page once you sign up. Please make sure your game is updated and multiplayer is enabled in your Microsoft account before class.

━━━━ 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗚𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗘 ━━━━

I can't wait to see what you come up with in camp! Let's try new things together.

Learning Goals

I want students to walk away from this course with not only the knowledge of the game design process, but the confidence to take risks and make mistakes. Students should also have an increased creative stamina and the ability to navigate through mental blocks when brainstorming. Similar to real-world collaboration in any creative industry, students have the opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback and flex their social skills.
