Class Experience
As an educator, I would always cringe when I'd hear students talking among themselves and asking, "When will I ever use this?!" When it comes to math, a topic that I am super passionate about, I can't help but put myself in their shoes as I probably wondered the same when I was in middle and high school taking Algebra 2, pre-calculus, analyzing proofs, and more. As an adult, I realize now that the math that wasn't concentrated on when I was in school was the very math I use every single day...
Students will improve both their literacy and mathematical skills while applying those skills to real-life scenarios they will encounter in their adult lives.
I have been teaching consumer math and personal finance classes for 20 years.
I will be giving out enrichment and practice problems students can do independently each week to ensure I know the student is learning. If a student is taking this class for a grade or credit, they will need to do the homework for assessment.
Students should have access to a calculator for this class. I may occasionally post quick quizzes to do on Kahoot or on a free, no login website I use to create assessments.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will not be formally assessing the students, but if you need me to do a formal assessment, please let me know, and I will create a grading rubric for your student. I will be providing feedback a few times each week!
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
