Written and video feedback is provided throughout the course if the learner turns in their essays.Letter Grade
No formal grade will be given unless parents request it. If so, I will grade the learner via rubrics designed for the course writing assignments. Learners will also be provided rubrics to guide them. If you want a grade for your learner, just let me know!Class Experience

Advanced Level
As a former AP and dual credit teacher and current college writing professor, I know first-hand what colleges are looking for in their learners' writings. Two of the most assigned essays in college are the argumentative essay and the analysis essay. My goal is to help learners deepen their understanding of each type, help learners improve their organizational and writing skills, show learners several ways to strengthen and cite their textual evidence, and review the MLA process. I want learners to become more confident in their research, writing, analyzing, and citing skills! In this course, learners will develop their essay-writing skills and learn to cite sources properly. We will analyze documents from the Civil War and Civil Rights Movement using the REHUGO analysis process, progressing from thesis development to writing powerful introductions and conclusions. The course culminates with a learner's choice writing project on a historical period, event, or person, including source gathering from multiple mediums, honing in on analysis-type writing, and creating a Works Cited page. Your teen will gain valuable critical thinking and writing skills that will serve them well in their academic journey and beyond! A more detailed outline can be found in the Syllabus below :)

Civil Rights Movement REHUGO Full Essay with Introduction and Conclusion
Using the Civil Rights Movement and a photograph, this lesson guides learners through the complete analysis essay writing process 50 mins online live lesson
Other Details
Pre-Requisites
It is highly recommended that your learner has a background in MLA formatting and citing for this course.
Supply List
Handouts, outlines, and rubrics will be provided for this class. Learners should have access to a writing utensil, notebook paper, and typing software such as Google Docs or Word to ensure learners know how to properly set up and type a document in MLA format.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

My academic journey led me to acquire Bachelor's Degrees in English, Journalism, Writing, Finance, and Music, topped with a Master’s Degree in Education. I LOVE to learn and share that knowledge with others 🙂. Throughout my teaching tenure, I spent 21 years in a high school setting, am an adjunct professor, and the proud owner of a private piano studio. With my experience of 26 years in teaching, both online and in-person, I've honed my skills to become a multifaceted educator passionate about fostering growth and knowledge.
