Exploring weekly themes based on ANIMALS, SPACE, DRAGONS, DINOSAURS, and HABITATS, learners will be inspired to create with clay, blocks, nature items and other items of interest. Then combining as many creations as possible and adding story elements, we will create a class story as learners will take turns sharing their picture of the story. Every student will have multiple opportunities to share during class as we explore speaking in small groups, turn taking and raising hands. In addition, learners will start class by saying hello and end class by saying unique goodbyes. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my Outschool page! My name is Teacher Kelley.
I am a wife and mom to four children (college age to middle school). I have one fur baby: a dog named Bella. Currently, I am helping three of my own children meet their educational goals through eclectic schooling (Using some public school classes, online classes, and independent home study). I have also taught online for three years and have completed over 6,000 one-on-one English tutoring classes for ESL students. Previously, I have served as an Education Director for Goddard Schools, a public school elementary classroom teacher, and a private middle school math and English teacher. I have extensive experience developing school year curriculum, summer camp curriculum, planning large youth events, coaching, and tutoring.
Classes
I offer Outschool classes for learners ages 3-10 (Pre-K; Kindergarten, elementary). My classes focus on the core subjects math, English, science, and art. By taking my classes your child will also grow in their social-emotional development, problem-solving skills, fine motor development and executive function skills.
Professional Background
I have 25 years of teaching experience. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology: Social Work with a minor in Psychology from College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, USA. I also hold Post-Bachelorette certification in Elementary Education for K through eighth grade from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire, USA. I have completed many certifications and trainings for STEAM, STEM, PBL, and TEFL.
Teaching Style/Philosophy/Curriculum
In my classes, I use a project based learning (PBL) approach that is themed around learner interests and primary subjects. I like to ask questions in my classes. By presenting problems to solve and asking questions, learners have opportunities to actively engage, discuss their point of view, and to further research after class.
I have found that every child is different and unique. I especially enjoy individualizing learning in small group settings and I will teach your child the same way I teach my own children. My teaching style is creative and intentional. All learners are welcome in the classroom. I want all learners feel comfortable, valued, and heard therefore, I teach for four reasons: learning, the learning environment, multiculturalism, and diversity. One of my favorite quotes from Maria Montessori is "Education is not something which the teacher does, but a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. It is not acquired by listening to words but in virtue of experiences in which the child acts on his environment." I am always looking learning experiences for my own children and I am so excited to be a teacher on Outschool so that I can help families find online learning opportunities, too!
Personal Note:
When I am not teaching, I also enjoy baking, board gaming, and organizing my home.
I am super excited to meet you! See you in the classroom!
