Computer science and music have a lot in common. Anyone can code! This class includes programming challenges for experienced Scratch coders. Musical learners will love creating with sound. Get creative as you explore sound, compose beats, and write music. Enhance animations with sound. Use your creativity and computational thinking at the same time. This class uses ideas and resources from Google's CS First curriculum. (Available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International License.) There is also plenty of extra information and interaction. You'll also learn music theory and science of sound concepts beyond the coding curriculum. Each live class will feature an overview lesson, time to code, and opportunities to share and celebrate successful programs. Learners are always welcome to ask questions and share their work through live screen sharing, Outschool's classroom, or messages. Check out the weekly schedule for more interaction and lesson topics! Week 1: 🎵 Introduction and Discovery - Review blocks in Scratch and code something unexpected! Week 2: 🎵 Dance Party - Create a musical dance party! Week 3: 🎵 Musical Art - Create a colorful and musical collage. Week 4: 🎵 Musical Talent Show - program your own characters' musical acts. Week 5: 🎵 DJ Mixer - Explore loops and variables to create your own beats! Week 6: 🎵 Music Video - Create an animation for your music! Week 7: 🎵 Sound Effects - create custom sound effects for games or add effects to your music video. Week 8: 🎵 Final Project - Compose an original composition. ***This class is best for learners with previous Scratch coding experience. New to Scratch? Try my Scratch Starter Pack Flex class first.***

Parental Guidance
Students will use one of the following options to create their programs:
1. Google's CS First - (optional) Parents may choose to make an account for their child prior to class so student work can be saved on the platform. Students can still use CS first without signing in and can download their programs without an account instead.
2. Scratch.com - (optional) Parents may choose to make an account for their child prior to class so student work can be saved on the platform. Students can still use CS first without signing in and can download their programs without an account instead.
3. Scratch 3.0 - (optional) Parents may choose to download Scratch 3.0, a native app, to their device so students can work directly on their device. (Helpful for lower bandwidth.
Students should be familiar with navigating between tabs on their device or have a second monitor so they can navigate between Outschool's Zoom and the Coding platform, to have off-screen parental support to do this. Alternately, students may work on two different devices. Doing so makes screen-sharing slightly more challenging.
