Class  Description

The aim of this class is to provide children and parents with a strong choice and voice in developing a plan for interest-led and child-centred learning experiences in my play-based classes. In this meeting we will:
(1) Get to know each other.
(2) Collaborate to reflect on, understand and set goals for your child's learning.
(3) Depending on your child's needs, identify existing classes to meet their needs, or explore the option of a fully customised, one-on-one learning experience.

This class is held in a relaxed and informal "meet the teacher and play" format, and at least 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱. This is a one-on-one session, focussed on ensuring children have a voice in their own learning, to determine if they like my play-based and interest-led teaching style, and to allow parents to ask questions and provide me with information about their child's learning needs and goals during this session.

You can determine the learning needs, goals and interests we explore in this session. These may include:
- literacy, reading, writing;
- maths and mathematical thinking;
- science, STEM, construction and engineering;
- art, creative thinking;
- social studies;
- play skills;
- social skills; and/ or
- learning skills (such as critical thinking, flexible thinking, sequencing, problem-solving and attention).

Who  Is  This  Class  For?

𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲:
Before committing to a five or ten week class with me, this session will allow us to meet and determine whether you and your child like my teaching style. We will talk in a relaxed way, and your child can show me some of the things they like to do.

During this session, parents can also provide information to me about any questions, goals or concerns when it comes to your child's learning.

Our discussion and play together will also help me understand your child's learning needs and goals. This will help me make individualised suggestions about whether my classes might suit your child, and (if so) which ones. It will also help me tailor my classes for your child, and ensure any classes you take with me are fun, interesting, comfortable and meaningful for your child

𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿/ 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀:
This class is also suitable for my regular learners. In our session together, I will provide each child with strengths-based feedback on their learning and progress across the multiple classes they have taken with me so far. As a parent, you will also be able to ask me questions about your child's learning. As you will already know, the feedback I provide you will always be affirming and strengths-based, such as:
~ positive affirmation (e.g. "I remember that I really liked the way you did...");
~ positive reflection (e.g. "I wonder how/ what you thought of...?"); and/ or
~ positive stretching (e.g. "I wonder if you could/ would/ might..?).

I will also invite both you and your child to provide your feedback to me (in whatever way you feel most comfortable). For example, your child might like talk about they have (or haven't!) enjoyed doing in our classes so far, or they can even draw the ideas and interests they have for what they want to do next.
Learning Goals
Although this is a feedback and planning class, these are also valuable learning experiences (for both child and teacher!). The intended learning outcomes of this class are drawn from the Australian Early Years Learning Framework and are:
(1) I can openly express my ideas and feelings in my interactions with others.
(2) I feel recognised and respected for who I am.
(3) I can experience and share personal successes in learning, and initiate opportunities for new learning.
(4) I can be an enthusiastic participant in my own learning.
(5) I can interact with others to explore ideas and concepts, challenge and clarify my thinking, and negotiate and share new understandings.
