US Grade 6 - 9
Each class is broken into 3 parts: Review of basic skills, new pre-algebra lesson, and then practice problems. Review: 10 minutes Students must have a strong foundational skillset before tackling Algebra 1. This includes a solid understanding of basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Additionally, familiarity with fractions, decimals, and percentages is crucial, as these concepts often appear in algebraic problems. New pre-algebra lesson: 10 minutes I follow an, "I do, we do, you do" teaching method. This means I will demonstrate first, then we practice together, and then the student is asked to try on their own. This is a very gentle teaching approach that leaves lots of room for communication and builds confidence! Practice problems: 10 minutes The name of this section says it all: this is the part of class where students are asked to practice the skill on their own, usually with 4 practice problems so we can address any corrections as they go. There is no breakdown of weekly lessons since class is personalized and curated to meet the needs of each individual student. Pre-algebra topics that we can and will cover are the following: Exponents (basic + multiplying and dividing) Order of operation Negative numbers Absolute value Fractions (add/sub/multi/divide) (mixed and improper) Percents Decimals Geometry review: Area, perimeter, volume of irregular shapes + surface area Isosceles, equilateral, scalene, finding the area of a triangle. Coordinate planes Converting fractions to decimals Converting decimals to percents Ratios Proportions Prime factor trees + LCM + GCF Combining like terms One and two-step algebra problems Graphing inequalities Slope intercept form ** Parents, if you have specific skills or topics needed, please let me know before signing up. Students will also practice problem-solving and critical thinking skills, which are essential for understanding and applying algebraic concepts. This includes puzzles, logic games, and math challenges, which are fun and effective skill builders!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold two bachelor's degrees, one in creative writing and another in child psychology. I am currently attending Johns Hopkins University, pursuing my master's in writing.
I have taught on Outschool for over 4 years and have homeschooled my own kiddo since kindergarten (who is now in high school.)
Plus, honestly, teaching is my passion, and I LOVE my job! :) Which, I think is the most important factor here.
