Dear Parents and Learners! Thank you for your interest in my chess class! :) This introductory class is welcome to all learners who wish to learn about chess, who already know the rules of the game and wants to apply strategies in the end-games. This series of class is a continuation from the class Chess for Rookies: Introduction Part IV. Participants should have basic knowledge on : -The chessboard and the basic rules of the game -The value system of the pieces -How to checkmate and how to draw -The notation -Basic structure of the game If two players are similar in skills and one side has an extra chess piece, knowing how to checkmate in the end-game becomes crucial. In this 3 class series, we will review, practice and learn: - Strategies review - Checkmate when the opponent only has the king left. Checkmate with 1 Queen Checkmate with 2 Rooks Checkmate with 1 Rook Checkmate with 2 Bishops - Game time! Please see the syllabus for more information. Now that students understand the basic rules, let`s dive into the game and have fun! If we have the time, we will practice the checkmates with games. Depending on the game, the class might go slightly overtime. Students who finished their game can choose to stay to watch other games. The goal of the class is for students to be able to land the killing move in the end-game. By the end of the class, students should be able to win the game in the end if they have a advantageous piece. Students should also be familiar with draw positions. In the disadvantageous situation, students will recognize a draw opportunity and force a draw. I highly recommend having a chessboard and chess pieces. For the class, I will be using an online platform as well to make sure that everyone can follow at the same time. If you have any questions or need to request a different time, please don`t hesitate to communicate with me. Warmly, Louisa

Teacher expertise and credentials
I played chess throughout my childhood and I wish to introduce my passion to young learners. I played competitively in Canada for many years, notably at the Canadian Youth Chess Championship and had the chance to represent my country in international competitions such as the World Youth Chess Championship. I think this game is a fun way to develop strategies, analysis, planning, empathy and most importantly, make friends with others and the self.
