In 8 class trainings, Spy Kids engage in S.T.E.A.M. activities: observation, code deciphering, gadget building, secret messages, disguises, and more. Do you have what it takes to pass the spy test a treasure hunt in your home?

Class experience

Campers will learn how spies, detectives, and scientists use the "Scientific Method" to solve problems and answer question. They will heighten their power of observation using the five senses, unlock lateral and critical thinking skills, decipher codes and clues, and problem solve, and engage in physical fitness activities.
I'm a published fiction (mystery) and nonfiction author, former homeschool mom of four, and have taught and tutored all ages for close to 20 years. For the last 7 years, I've taught Spy Kids, first as a summer camp, then as a full curriculum with a homeschool co-op. I'm excited to take this class, and others, online to reach more students with the fun and educational activities in learning to be a spy!
Homework Offered
Since this is designed as a camp to inspire your camper to further explore the activities learned in class, required and/or optional activities will be suggested daily and posted on the class page after each camp day. Parents' participation is essential as each day there will be a set of supplies needed for the activities in the class and after class which will be thoroughly detailed in the parent communication letter. ****IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: I've never had any problems, but parent or guardian is responsible for supervision and safety of participant. Do not register for this class if the student may be unsupervised during this treasure hunt mission which takes place in your home. By registering for this class you are agreeing to the following: Parents or guardians agree to take all necessary precautions and supervision to prevent injury to any persons or damage to property during the term of this class agreement, and shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless the teacher and company from any claim, liability, loss, cost, damage, judgment, settlement or expense (including attorney’s fees) resulting from or arising in any way out of injury (including death) to any person or damage to property arising in any way out of any act, error, omission or negligence on the part of child, parent or guardian in the performance or failure to fulfill any supervision, safety precautions, or obligations under this Agreement.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Through class participation. I try to engage all learners and ask everyone to share either the chat box or in class and prefer cameras to be on unless there is a reason why they cannot be.
Grades Offered
 1 file available upon enrollment
*****You will need a PRINTER OR ACCESS TO A PRINTER to print out several worksheets we will need in class. If this is a problem, contact me and we may be able to figure out another option! ****HIGHLY SUGGESTED: Backpack, bag or tote where you can fill each day's supplies for your learner. You may want to prepack the day's supplies in a plastic or paper sack and label them 1-8 for easy organization between days. A more detailed supply list will be sent several days before class. ****Pencil & Spy notebook for deciphering and taking notes for each day! 12 Envelopes (big or small) A combination is fine. Day 1: Pencil & Spy notebook 3 toilet paper rolls, scissor, hole punch (optional) or sharp pen, black shoelace (optional,) string or yarn, black paint (optional,) glue or *hot glue (optional)-might need parental assistance. Day 2: Pencil & Spy notebook Empty water bottle, rice, funnel, and tiny objects or toys you can put in the bottle. Day 3: Pencil & Spy notebook Day 4: Clear roll of scotch tape, #2 pencil, index cards; a ball or yarn, sturdy string or rope, scissors Day 5: 2 toilet paper rolls, 1-2 plastic spoon, 5-6 large/medium rubber bands, 10 or more small popsicle sticks, cotton balls, or other small and light item. Extended list and instructions will be posted in the classroom before class starts!
This camp needs PARENTAL SUPPORT before and during camp by prepping materials (PRINTING OUT, cutting some items for Day 2 & 3 & Day 8 and organizing them) for each day of camp and making sure your camper knows where to find them before camp starts. Most kids do just fine on their own, but some kids may need support during camp. So parents should be close by just in case. I leave the activities and crafts that might need parental involvement to the last 5- 10 minutes (and over the weekend with exception of the final mission) so parents don't have to be their the entire hour.

Materials will be sent a couple weeks before camp. The FINAL MISSION on Day 8, WILL NEED TO BE SET UP BY PARENTS IN THEIR HOME. Instructions are detailed and easy, but if you forget to prepare the final mission, you will have a disappointed camper!
Parents should be close by in case their child needs help finding the clues. I guide them in discovering the answers, but each camper is on a separate mission in their own home. If they can not find the clues in their home, I improvise and move them ahead so they can still participate. However, the Final Mission problems can be avoided if parents read the step-by-step, detailed, easy set up checklist and follow it accordingly. It will be posted on the CLASSROOM PAGE the weekend before the Final Mission. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION and UNDERSTANDING that this camp requires PARENTAL PARTICIPATION. It really is easy prep and CHILDREN AND PARENTS SAY IT'S WORTH IT!*** ********DAILY PREP is essential for this camp to be a success. You will need a PRINTER OR ACCESS TO A PRINTER to print out several worksheets we will need in class. The worksheet should be labeled, put in a folder organized by day, and clearly visible so your camper can find them. If this is a problem, contact me and we may be able to figure out another option!
***Parental guidance and safety precautions may be needed in the use of items in supply list like hot glue gun, glue, scissors, paint, rope, make-up etc. Please see specific supplies listed below. By signing up for this class, you are responsible for your child's safety at all times. ***
***PARENTS WILL NEED TO SET UP THE FINAL MISSION AT HOME. Clues and detailed instructions will be provided by the teacher at the BOTTOM OF THE CLASSROOM PAGE.

Some video puzzles may be used and will contain words such as "murder," "killed," "stabbed" or "shot," but there will be no graphic pictures or explanations. These words are used to piece together the clues to solve mysteries.

****IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: I've never had any problems, but parent or guardian is responsible for supervision and safety of participant. Do not register for this class if the student may be unsupervised during this treasure hunt mission which takes place in your home. By registering for this class you are agreeing to the following:

Profile
I love seeing students get excited about writing, even reluctant writers. Ever since I was 8  years old, I've been journaling and writing poetry to express things I couldn't speak out loud or didn't know how to. My thoughts just came out better...
