Bully Prevention for Kids: An Introduction
Class experience
This class is designed for students AGES 7 - 12 with no prior knowledge of the subject matter needed. We'll do a quick round of introductions and set the class expectations and safety protocols. Students will not be expected to interact with each other, they will simply listen and learn. There will be a few minutes at the end to answer any questions. All questions will be sent in chat privately, to allow anonymity we will not mention who is asking the question. This allows a sense of privacy...
Kids will learn what bullying behavior is, what makes a bully a bully, steps to handle a bully, what role the bystander plays and what to do if you are a bystander to a bullying situation. Kids will have a better understanding of the basics of bullying which can help them avoid, prevent, diffuse and support themselves and those being bullied.
Pamela and Rich have a combined 30 years of experience in teaching self defense and violence prevention to kids and teens across the world, including public and private schools, afterschool programs, private sessions, camps and workshops. We are educated and trained in trauma sensitive and trauma informed teaching approaches.
Homework Offered
Optional homework: Watch the class recording again with your adults and talk about a time when you saw someone being bullied. What could you have done to help them? If you have been bullied, talk about what you can do in the future to prevent it or handle it.Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Because we are discussing bullying and self defense, we recommend parents/adults be within earshot of their child and to offer support to discuss the subject matter afterwards. Sometimes questions can come up after our lessons once the information has had a chance to be absorbed. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions your child may have, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Most questions are very common and ones we hear often!
