Homework
1 hour per week. I do often assign homework because I believe that practicing social skills in person is vital for improvement. My homework consists of practicing the skills that were taught that week, and is relatively minimal.Class Experience
**PLEASE NOTE: Outschool has recently changed the way parents can view 1:1 availability! If you are not currently enrolled in this class, you will not be able to see all of my availability. I have much more availability than is shown, so please message me and I can help to set up lessons for your child that fit your schedule!** This one-on-one personalized social skills coaching class is designed to increase your child's ability to communicate socially and improve their emotional intelligence. My one-on-one classes are entirely based on your needs, and I highly suggest reaching out after scheduling in order to share what your goals are, so that I can create a personalized lesson plan just for your child. Although this class is perfect for neurodivergent students who sometimes struggle with social skills (ADHD, Autism spectrum), it is open to any student who would like to improve their communication and social skills. I’m also able to tailor this class to address executive functioning skills, as well as emotional management skills (e.g., anger, anxiety, fears). Although class is aligned with the student's needs, there is a general format that I prefer to follow, based on my 19 years of previous experience with conducting group social skills training classes: 1. Naming various emotions 2. Learning how to recognize emotions in others based on non-verbal cues 3. Learning how to adapt one's own communication skills based on other's emotions 4. Learning conversation skills (How to start a conversation, how to keep it going, how to appropriately end conversations) 5. Improving active listening skills 6. Maintaining eye contact 7. Troubleshooting difficult conversation skills 8. Maintaining confidence in one's own non-verbal communication 9. Establishing boundaries with others in an appropriate manner 10. Self-regulation and inner confidence skills A couple of things to note: -I like to start my social skills training classes by doing a quick personality inventory to determine if my students is more of an extrovert vs. and introvert. I am a firm believer in not trying to change one's personality type; instead I want to tailor any skills/techniques to one's existing personality type. -I'm happy to let you know that our class not only includes 30 minutes of one-on-one instruction but also involves significant individualized preparation on my part. This is to ensure that your child gets the best learning experience possible! Additionally, I'll be sending you a class summary note afterward to recap what we covered and to let you know about any practice your child should do before our next class. -It is important for the student to have the camera turned on throughout the class. Although I normally don't mind cameras being turned off in other classes, it is important for them to be on in this class to help with nonverbal communication skills. -This class is in high demand for weekend and after school times (in CDT)! Classes can be booked out as far as 90 days, and I strive to keep my availability updated far beyond that. If I don't have an available spot that fits your schedule, I would suggest checking further out, and there are usually spots available. I would also suggest initially booking as many classes as you think you'll need, as these spots might fill up later on. I can also put you on a waitlist if needed! -I also teach a small group version of this class (2-6 students per class) that is a great supplement or alternative to this class! I added this class in order to give students some true peer experience with their social skills training, as well as to add additional availability due to the popularity of my 1:1 version. This small group version can be taken alone or in conjunction with my 1:1 class.

Hello all learners and parents! My name is Mandy and I teach classes designed to help children reduce stress and anxiety. I have 18 years of experience using techniques that are research-based and proven to aid in mind/body relaxation. My goal is to help children learn to cope with and manage strong emotions through techniques they can use throughout their lives.
My academic background is in Clinical Psychology. I have both a B.S. and M.S. in Clinical Psychology and have 20 years of experience working with youth. I have worked in a therapeutic setting since 2004, teaching social skills groups, ADHD management groups, relaxation exercises, and play therapy sessions. I have years of experience creating and facilitating children's social skills groups, as well as developing some of my own materials that were used in those groups.
As a psychometrist, I have extensive experience administering comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations and cognitive rehabilitation assessments, including vision therapy and neurofeedback, with children and adolescents. I have worked with a wide range of diagnoses (ADHD, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum disorders, Dyslexia, behavior disorders, etc.), ages (age 2 to adult), and intellectual levels (severely delayed to gifted).
During my time on Outschool, I have taught over 10,000 students, and have been blessed to meet so many learners from different cultures and walks of life. I have also frequently worked with neurodiverse learners both on Outschool and in private practice. My goal as a teacher is to meet students where they are at, as well as celebrate their differences! I will always teach one student classes, so that parents do not have to worry about cancellations.
