In this class, we will construct fractions using play dough. We will use vocabulary such as “whole, numerator, denominator, unit fraction, partition, decompose” while modeling fractions. Students will learn how to compare fractions as greater than, less than, or equal to. Topics Covered: Modeling fractions —partitioning a whole into thirds, fourths, eights, halves Comparing fractions with same denominators by describing them as greater than, less than, or equal to. Finding equivalence for “thirds, fourths, halves” by decomposing the fraction model. Class Structure: We will begin class with friendly greetings! Our lesson will start with a brief discussion of the meaning of “fraction.” We will learn about the meaning of fraction through an engaging activity which will lead to constructing our own fraction models with play dough! Students will have the opportunity to see how a “whole” can be “decomposed” into pieces, creating a fraction. We will identify the “unit fraction” of each model as well as use our manipulative (play dough model) to solve word problems. Next, we will compare fractions and find equivalence. Students will use their models to “decompose” the “unit fraction” further to find an equivalent fraction. Teaching Style: I am very energetic and enthusiastic when teaching. I love exploring concepts through hands on activities. My class will consist of interactive discussion, engaging media (games, video clips, interactive slides), hands on manipulatives, and a fun learning environment! This class serves as an introduction to understanding basic fractions. No prior knowledge is required for this course.

I would like to say thank you for taking the time out to read a little bit about me and for considering me as a part of your child’s learning journey! My passion for teaching continues to strengthen as each year passes! I take pride in building relationships with my students. Having a positive and welcoming environment is something that helps facilitate learning which ensures student engagement and success! I strive for my classroom environment to be warm and welcoming. It is important to me that my students are able to make meaningful connections and build confidence. My ultimate goal is to provide the best learning experience for my students that gets them excited and passionate about learning.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently certified to teach grades Pre-K—5 and Special Education Grades K—12. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I also hold a certification in School Counseling. I have taught (and still teach) in a public school setting going on 13 years. The first 4 years I taught 3rd grade, pre-k and kindergarten. Now, for the past 9 years and counting, I have been teaching Special Education in the Elementary setting. Teaching regular and special education has provided me with countless opportunities to work with a variety of students. I have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students. I am also able to individualize lessons and provide direct, explicit instruction by providing modifications and accommodations when necessary.
I was introduced to online teaching when I began my experience of teaching English as a Second Language with VIPkid to students who were learning English. This experience had motivated me to branch out and continue teaching online. It had inspired me to expand my platform providing me with the opportunity of teaching classes online for 5 years. I love meeting new people and being able to help make a difference in a learner’s educational experience.
Thank you for reading, and I hope to work with your child in the future! I am looking forward to meeting many students and exploring new concepts with them.
