US Grade 6 - 9
This is an ongoing Biology class. An ongoing class can be joined whenever you'd like!! If a student joins anytime after the first class, the classes will continue to the end and arrive at the beginning again. This is class is designed with flipped learning! The students will recieve a pre-class reading assignment, then spend class time engaged in an active learning experience, such as answering questions, discussion, and viewing a powerpoint lecture. A flipped learning classroom allows the students to build upon their pre-class learning. This alleviates their load during class, so that they can think more deeply about the topic, make connections and ask questions. Optional bonus! We will view microorganisms 10 minutes before each class! We will see organisms, such as, water bears, rotifers, paramecia, ciliates, vorticella, spyrogyra ostracods and so much more! The topics that will be covered are: ⚫ Saturday class (See below for Thursday class): Week of February 4th: Cells Cell Structure and Function Week of February 11th: Photosynthesis Cellular Respiration Week of February 18th: Cell Growth and Division Week of February 25th: Genetics Introduction to Genetics DNA and RNA Genetic Engineering The Human Genome Microorganisms and Fungi Bacteria and Viruses Protists Fungi Plants Plant Diversity Roots, Stems, and Leaves Reproduction of Seed Plants Plant Responses and Adaptations Invertebrates Sponges and Cnidarians Worms and Mollusks Arthropods and Echinoderms Comparing Invertebrates Chordates Nonvertebrate Chordates, Fishes, and Reptiles and Birds Mammals Comparing Chordates Animal Behavior The Human Body Nervous System Skeletal, Muscular, and Integumentary Systems Circulatory and Respiratory Systems Digestive and Excretory Systems Endocrine and Reproductive Systems The Immune System and Disease Ecosystems and Communities The Role of Climate What Shapes an Ecosystem? Bachelor's Degree in Science from WGU
Hello!
I'm a lifelong learner and I have a passion for teaching. I've taught over 1,700 ESL (English as a Second Language) classes to students from around the world.
I've homeschooled my daughter for the last 5 years. Her curriculum consisted of college-prep classes.
I will be teaching a variety of classes on Outschool, such as book art, making homemade kefir from kefir grains, homemade yogurt and buttermilk, handwriting, biology, math, and history.
I graduated from WGU as a secondary biology teacher. I'm certified to teach biology to middle school and high school students. I've taught students from pre-k through 12th grade.
I think outside of the box and therefore when a student has a hard time grasping a concept, I can easily come up with another way to teach it to that student. I believe every child deserves a patient and understanding teacher because we don't all learn the same way or at the same pace.
Our family loves to travel and we especially love to go on cruises. We've been on a Disney cruise and swam with stingrays and dolphins!
It would be an honor to have you or your child in my class!
